Reviews
"Polished, ...professional performances which really capture the spirit of the music. The soprano line is particularly well shaped in the Sarum and Winchester services, and the men's unison voices are smooth and refined." (BBC Music Magazine)

"These are compelling performances. Selwyn are perhaps not the best known of the Cambridge mixed-voice choirs, but on the evidence of this disc, they would give any of their supposedly more illustrious neighbours a run for their money. There is an exuberance about their singing which evinces real enjoyment and a commitment to the music." (International Record Review)

"Accompaniments are played with tasteful and intelligent registrations. The sopranos are not afraid to sing with a richness and warmth of tone, especially in exposed passages." (Church Music Quarterly)

Songs of Innocence and of Experience: Music By Gary Higginson (Regent REGCD381)

The contemporary composer Gary Higginson studied with Edmund Rubbra and John Joubert, and has led a varied and successful career as a composer, singer, and teacher. This is the first recording dedicated to his choral music, and Selwyn were honoured to be invited to record it. Sarah MacDonald wears two hats at once on this disc, as the recording also features two pieces for upper voices sung by Ely Cathedral Girls' Choir. The renowned soprano Charlotte de Rothschild, and harpist Danielle Perrett are also featured on the recording. The music is technically sophisticated, and Gary's word setting is extremely expressive and beautiful.

Milles Regretz: Music for Lutes and Voices (Regent REGCD362)

In a departure from our normal fare, a group of sixteen choir members with Marcus Tomalin and Anna Langley, lutes, gathered to record this disc in the lively though intimate acoustic of Downing College Chapel. Renaissance lute solo and duet intabulations of contemporaneous choral works are juxtaposed with the originals, to produce a ground-breaking and historically important disc which promises to delight all listeners. The recording includes music by Josquin, Morales, Gombert, Lassus, and Dowland, most of which have not been recorded before, and many of the choral editions were prepared especially for the recording.
