Thinking of taking your MA?

If you wish to take your MA degree, please contact Mrs Margaret Hay (Praelector's Secretary) by e-mail (or telephone 01223 335897) and she will be pleased to provide you with full details.

Eligibility:  A Bachelor of Arts may be admitted to the degree of Master of Arts not less than 6 years from the end of his or her first term of residence, provided 2 years have elapsed since being admitted to the degree of Bachelor of Arts.

Fee:  There is no fee payable if you matriculated after 1963.  For those who matriculated before 1963, there is a fee of £5.00. Cheques, payable to 'Selwyn College', should be sent to Mrs Hay in the Tutorial Office.

Replacement certificate and degree transcripts:
The University is responsible for producing replacement certificates and degree transcripts.  Please click here for further information.  Any queries can be directed to Mrs Hay.

What are the dates on which can I take my MA degree:  Congregations are held during most months of the year: please check for availability.

What's involved:  You may take your degree either "in person" or "in absence".  If you come "in person", then you may bring 4 guests for lunch, excluding yourself.  You would lunch as a guest of the College, and a small charge would be made for each of your guests. Please note, however, that we are allowed to issue you with only 3 tickets for the ceremony itself as seats are strictly limited.

For those taking their degree "in absence", the degree certificate will be issued to you during the week after the date of the Congregation. It is only possible to take your degree in absence during January and April.

Whether taking your degree "in person" or "in absence" Mrs Hay needs at least fourteen days' notice in advance of the date of the Congregation, in order for the necessary paperwork to be submitted to the University.

For those who matriculated in 2004 the date of the MA Congregation is Saturday, 26 March 2011. The Tutorial Office will be in touch with further information shortly after Christmas.  In the meantime, if you have any queries please contact Mrs Hay by e-mail (or telephone 01223 335897).
