Aerosols

Recycle in Can Banks, located at Kitchen Yard and Cripps Court.

Aluminium foil

Clean kitchen foil, milk bottle tops, ready-meal foil containers etc. - recycle in Can Banks, located at Kitchen Yard and Cripps Court.

Batteries

Used batteries recycled via Porters' Lodge.

Bubble-wrap

Cans

Bubble-wrap can be forwarded to the Development Office for re-use.
Clean food and drinks cans - recycle in Can Banks, located at Kitchen Yard and Cripps Court.

Cardboard

Recycle in the cardboard skip in Kitchen Yard. Must be flattened and have all packaging / staples removed.

Computers & IT equipment

The College is now legally required to dispose of all electrical appliances separately. Contact the IT Office regarding recycling discarded computers & IT equipment.

Cycles & cycle parts

The Bikeman, Market Square, will recycle bikes and can collect in bulk. The Owls Project (Tel.835329) will collect donated bicycles for recycling.

Electrical appliances

The College is now legally required to dispose of all electrical appliances separately - contact the Domestic Dept. regarding disposal. Electrical retailers may also offer in-store take-back of their old products free of charge, if bought after 13 August, 2005. Retailers may also take back older products free of charge when you make a like-for-like purchase, no matter where you bought the original product.

Envelopes

Recycle white envelopes with paper (remove all plastic windows). Re-use brown envelopes where possible, or dispose of in green wheelie-bin (Cripps Court) for composting (remove all plastic windows).

Glass

Recycle glass bottles and jars in green / clear / brown bottle banks located at Kitchen Yard and Cripps Crt.

Kitchen/green waste

Use the single green wheelie-bin located in the Cripps Court recycling area for compostable kitchen waste.

Lids

Metal lids from jars can be recycled in Can Banks, located Kitchen Yard and Cripps Court.

Metals

Contact the Maintenance Dept. for recycling scrap metal. Not to be disposed of in the general waste.

Photocopier toner cartridges
Plastic bottles

Forward photocopier toner cartridges to the College Library for recycling.
Recycle in plastic bottle banks, located in Kitchen Yard and Cripps Court, or in blue kerb-side recycling boxes (College hostels only). Plastic bottles should be washed and squashed, with lids discarded.

Plastic packaging (except bottles & corks)

Facilities do not currently exist for recycling these items. Avoid purchasing items with excessive packaging.

Plastic wine corks

Recycle at Oddbins, Trumpington St.

Paper

All paper (including white envelopes - no windows) can be recycled at Cripps Crt. & Kitchen Yard. Paper is collected every Wednesday from College offices.

Printer cartridges

Forward inkjet & laser printer cartridges to the IT Office for recycling.

Tetrapak (milk, juice, soup cartons etc.)

Tetrapak cartons can be recycled at most large supermarkets (Tesco, Sainsburys', Waitrose).

Textiles

Unwanted textiles and clothes can be taken to textile banks at City Council recycling centres (nearest one at Lammasland, Newnham).

White appliances

The College is now legally required to dispose of electrical appliances separately. Contact the Maintenance Dept. regarding disposal of white appliances, such as fridges and cookers.

Wood



Contact the Maintenance Dept. for recycling treated wood. The green wheelie-bins at Cripps Court are provided solely for untreated wood and garden waste from the College grounds only.

College recycling facilities:
Cripps Court (adjacent to University Rugby Ground): Glass bottle & jar banks, can bank, green bin (garden/kitchen waste), paper bank, plastic bottle bank.
Kitchen Yard (adjacent to Sidgwick Avenue): glass bottle & jar banks,
can bank, cardboard skip, paper bank, plastic bottle bank, kitchen waste.
College hostels: Black boxes (for paper, glass & all items recycled in can banks) and Blue boxes (for plastic bottles), green wheelie-bins (garden/kitchen waste).
