Selwyn College was founded in 1882 in memory of George Augustus Selwyn, Bishop successively of New Zealand and Lichfield.

Selwyn College legal framework

The modern College consists of the corporate body of the Head, Fellows and Scholars. It is administered according to a set of Statutes which have been in place (with various additions and amendments) since incorporation by Royal Charter on 13th September 1882. The executive bodies of the College are its Governing Body and its Council.

Supplementary policies and procedures detail the staff management procedures; the codes and conduct of College members and employees; the procurement of services, supplies and contracts; and the educational and pastoral guidance and support for students.

In some instances information from the Governing Body, Council and committee minutes will be exempt from disclosure where it contains personal information, information that may damage the commercial interests of the College or that may threaten the health and safety of specific individuals.
