All postgraduates pay a termly Facilities Charge. This is a contribution towards kitchen and IT overheads and services. In addition, students are charged a minimum amount for meals each term (the Minimum Meals Charge). The amount depends whether a student is living in or out.

5.3.1 Minimum Meals Charge

Postgraduates are charged a minimum meal charge (MMC) per term for meals.

The Lent and Easter bills will show the cost of meals taken in the previous term. If the minimum is not eaten during term, the shortfall will be charged as ‘meal charge not used’. The MMC charged in the student’s first term is effectively held as a deposit towards future terms’ meals. In subsequent years a small amount is charged as Meals Deposit in Michaelmas term to top up to the current level of the  MMC. On the final bill when the student leaves the Meal Deposit is refunded less any meals taken since previous bill.

For example:

Note that Meals taken and Meal charge not used add to £57.00.
