Applications for the Law Residential have now closed.
Selwyn College, University of Cambridge, is excited to announce our 2017 Law Residential for students in Year 12 (or equivalent e.g. S5) which will take place on Wednesday 5th July – Thursday 6th July.
This event is free to attend, with meals and accommodation provided for the duration of the Residential. We hope this Residential will provide prospective students with an opportunity to find out more about the University, how Law is taught at Cambridge and experience a taste of student life first-hand from living in the College and speaking to our undergraduate helpers.
The residential has been designed to complement both the Faculty of Law’s Open Day on 5th July and the University’s Open Day for all subjects and colleges on the 6th July. Students interested in studying Law are encouraged to sign up for the morning session of the Faculty of Law's Open Day, which is run independently of the Selwyn Open Day, at the following link:
Students will then head next door to Selwyn College to learn more about studying Law. There will be a number of sessions in the afternoon of the 5th run by the Fellows in Law and current students that will introduce attendees to the sort of issues that fill the Cambridge syllabus. These will be designed to complement the Faculty's sessions, and give attendees the opportunity to become more familiar with the way in which Law is taught in Cambridge. There will also be plenty of opportunities to talk to current students about life in Cambridge. The day will end with a dinner and social activities.
After a night in College and breakfast the following morning, attendees will be given one final session on studying Law with Dr O'Sullivan and an overview of the applications process. Particular attention will be paid to the interview. The Residential will end with lunch, after which attendees will be free to join the general University of Cambridge Open Day if desired. Please note students will need to book separately onto the University Open Day; bookings open in April.
The Selwyn Law Residential has been designed to sit alongside the Faculty and College Open Days, and applicants are warmly encouraged to attend all three. It is not, however, a requirement for participation in the Residential that applicants take part in the Faculty and/or Open Days.
Requirements for applicants:
- Considering studying Law at university
- Currently in Year 12 (or equivalent e.g. S5)
- Currently taking at least 2 facilitating subjects (Maths, Sciences, English Lit, History, Geography and Languages)
- Achieved majority As and A*s at GCSE (or equivalent e.g. National Highers)
There are 30 places available for this Residential. We anticipate being oversubscribed and we regret that it will not be possible to offer a place to every applicant. Applications will be assessed on the student’s academic record as well as contextual data.
