The Selwyn College Boathouse

The Selwyn College Boathouse is a symbol of the College’s enduring passion for rowing and its commitment to providing outstanding facilities for its students. Shared with King’s College, Churchill College and The Leys School, the new boathouse was officially opened on 12 June 2016, following a major fundraising campaign.
The appeal for Selwyn’s £1 million share of the costs was launched in March 2015. Thanks to the generosity of Selwyn alumni and friends over £150,000 was raised during the campaign, with contributions continuing to support the project through the Friends of Selwyn College Boat Club initiative (then called the Henley Fund).
The boathouse is a stylish and modern facility, featuring state-of-the-art fitness equipment, workshops and spacious changing rooms. Its upper floor houses a dedicated space for Concept2 ergometers, reflecting rowing’s status as the most popular sport at Selwyn for many decades.
Be part of the next chapter of Selwyn’s development
As a college that was founded in the late 19th century without an endowment, the development of Selwyn’s estate has always depended on the generosity of benefactors, both alumni and other friends. In the 21st century, the college continues to evolve plans to upgrade its much-loved heritage buildings, especially Old Court. Additionally, there are ambitions for brand new buildings that will help ensure Selwyn continues to offer some of the best accommodation and facilities in Cambridge.
