Donations by Bank Transfer

The most cost efficient way for Selwyn to receive your gift is by bank transfer:

Account Number: 40814598
Sort Code: 20-17-68
Account Name: SELWYN COLLEGE BURSARS A/C
SWIFT CODE: BARC GB 22
IBAN: GB18BARC20176840814598

In the reference box, write your initials and name followed by the fund you would like to support (or GENP if your gift is unrestricted).

Gift Aid and tax efficient giving

Gift Aid is one of the easiest ways to make your donation tax effective. The college can reclaim basic rate tax on all gifts from UK taxpayers at no extra cost to the donor, provided that the donor has paid an amount of UK income tax or capital gains tax equal to the amount reclaimed.  This boosts the value of every £1 donated by 25p.  Higher rate tax payers can reclaim up to 25% of their gift back through their self assesment tax forms as well; please contact the Development Office for more information.

Finally, if your donation is eligible for Gift Aid, please remember to sign this section on the donation form.

Payroll Giving

Payroll giving is a way of making a donation direct from your salary before income tax is calculated and deducted. If you are a basic rate taxpayer a monthly gift of £5 to Selwyn could cost you only £4 for example. Please contact your own payroll office to find out whether they participate in payroll giving.

Shares, securities, property

Gifts of shares, securities or other properties are a very tax-efficient way of benefitting the college. If you would like more information about giving shares please contact the Bursar.  Tel: 01223 335884  Email: bursar@sel.cam.ac.uk.

The Harding Challenge

For a limited time, there was an exciting, university-wide matched funding opportunity to increase the impact of donations towards any aspect of student support at Selwyn. This included any gift towards the choir, sport at Selwyn, bursaries, hardship or travel grants and scholarships. Not all donations were eligible, but for those that were any donation you gave for student support released an additional donation to the college of £2.62 for every £1 donated. These additional funds were used to provide many more Selwyn students with the Cambridge Bursary, which is how we help students from less affluent backgrounds. Learn more about the Harding Challenge here. Please contact us to confirm if your donation was eligible for these generous matched funds. Email: development@sel.cam.ac.uk.

Matched giving

A number of companies offer matched giving schemes through which they can double or even triple charitable donations from their employees.  Please check with your HR department to see if your company participates in a matched giving scheme.

Gifts in kind

Gifts in kind take many forms, from a valuable painting, to the offer of venues and hospitality for functions, providing careers advice for current students, providing introductions to trust and foundations, and offering your services as a year group representative or regional contact.  Please contact us at the Development Office to discuss how gifts in kind can help the college. Our email is development@sel.cam.ac.uk.
