Selwyn College Boat Club 24-Hour Ergathon

Selwyn College Boat Club is excited to announce its upcoming ‘24-hour Ergathon’ fundraising event, which will take place on the 24th – 25th March at Combined Colleges Boat House.
SCBC members will row with at least one, and up to four, ergs in constant use for a 24-hour period, from 5pm on Monday 24th March to 5pm on Tuesday 25th March. We aim to accumulate at least 300km in distance on the rowing machine (3 times the distance between Cambridge and Oxford!).
We will livestream our progress and donations are welcome via the College website. Please select "Ergathon - SCBC" in the designation drop down menu.
SCBC is the biggest student society at Selwyn, and continues to grow each year. Recent years have seen remarkably strong uptake. The women’s side has quadrupled in size since 2021, while M1 are starting in the first division of the Lent Bumps for the first time in 11 years this March.
Through this Ergathon we hope to fundraise up to £10,000 to contribute towards a new boat for women’s crews (part of the lead-up to the 50-year anniversary of women being members of SCBC), and towards a men’s pair to enable SCBC rowers to take part in small boats races and regattas on the Cam.
Molly and Camilla, Women’s Captains, tell us:
"Over the last few years, women’s rowing at Selwyn has seen remarkable growth, making it an incredibly exciting time to be part of the club. Our recent top finishes and victories in the Fairbairn Cup and Newnham Head are a testament to our success and our re-emergence as a high-performing college club. Work in the IV+ has become an invaluable part of our training programme, not only to drill technique but also to compete in races such as University IVs and Fairbairns.
With W1 pushing for a spot in Division One of Bumps for the first time since 2013, and W2 aiming to return to Lent Bumps for the first time since 2011, energy within the club is high."
Hugh and Euan, Men’s Captains, explain the importance of alumni support at this crucial time. "Alumni support has been fundamental to the students’ development in the sport, providing all the equipment they use. Updating our equipment will ensure that large numbers of Selwyn students can enjoy these opportunities and successes for years to come."
"It has been a promising time for rowing at Selwyn. Our fast crews are looking to build off last year’s Lent Bumps successes, with M1 starting in Division 1 for the first time in 11 years."
The Boat Club are calling for current members, alumni, Selwyn staff and students to join by signing up for a slot to row. To book your slot, contact Hebe, the Boat Club President, on: selwyn.captain@cucbc.org.
