The Quarry Whitehouse Auditorium

The Quarry Whitehouse Auditorium, named after alumna Jill Whitehouse (SE 1978) and alumnus Gareth Quarry (SE 1978), is a flexible, state-of-the-art space forming part of the Ann’s Court development at Selwyn College. Entirely funded by donations from alumni and friends, this project marks the completion of Ann’s Court, creating a landmark building that blends classical architectural design with modern functionality.

A versatile venue, equipped for the 21st century
Equipped with cutting-edge audio-visual technology, the auditorium accommodates up to 200 guests in a variety of layouts, from tiered seating for lectures and presentations to open spaces for networking events. Its retractable and stacking seating enables swift transformations, making it an ideal venue for conferences, hybrid events, and public gatherings. With its light and airy atmosphere, green rooms, and adjoining spaces for receptions, the auditorium is designed to serve both College and wider University needs.

Recognising your generosity
The generosity of donors is commemorated throughout the space. Many donors had elected to have their names on the auditorium seating, all of which was discreetly but stylishly accomplished by a team of signage experts. The Quarry Whitehouse Auditorium has come to represent not just an investment in facilities but also in the intellectual and communal life of the College, offering opportunities to engage with alumni and the broader public.

Digitally accessible to all
Our series of public events in the auditorium attract great audiences, who are able to put questions direct to the speakers, and many of these events are streamed live and on-demand on YouTube too – where they have attracted hundreds of thousands of viewers. You can browse our catalogue of recordings on our YouTube channel.

Be part of the next chapter of Selwyn’s development
As a college that was founded in the late 19th century without an endowment, the development of Selwyn’s estate has always depended on the generosity of benefactors, both alumni and other friends. In the 21st century, the college continues to evolve plans to upgrade its much-loved heritage buildings, especially Old Court. Additionally, there are ambitions for brand new buildings that will help ensure Selwyn continues to offer some of the best accommodation and facilities in Cambridge.
