Student support

Bursaries and scholarships make a Selwyn education accessible to all, regardless of their ability to pay. A range of awards mean our students benefit from opportunities to travel widely, take part in a wide variety of extra-curricular and academic activities and can enjoy the best possible care here, so they can get the full benefit of their time at Cambridge. You can learn more about the various areas in which support is offered below:

Every academic year, we award 26 academic prizes to students who excelled in their studies, almost all of which are made possible by generous support from alumni and friends.

In addition to academic prizes, we are pleased to be able to offer further academic support, and we are very grateful to our alumni and friends who allow our students to make the most of their academic opportunities. Students who have received these funds often undertake life-changing work to complement their degree and report back to the donors of the funds — you can read about one student's experiences by clicking on the image below.

The College Nurse is able to advise and support students with chronic disease management, mental health conditions, minor illness and injury, and making healthy lifestyle choices. This post is generously supported by Peter and Christina Dawson (Fellow Benefactors), who also fund The Dawson Fund, which provides assistance for students who need help with their mental health. More information on The Dawson Fund is available on point 3.4.2 on this page.

The support of alumni and friends has helped provide a wide range of extracurricular funding for Selwyn students.

Sport

The Vickerstaff Sports Bursary Scheme helps to cover the costs of equipment, competition fees, subscription fees, coaching, kit and training camps, empowering students to take their chosen sport to the highest levels, with many competing nationally and internationally.

Students in the college boat club benefit from the generous support offered by the Friends of Selwyn College Boat Club.

Music

The Friends of Selwyn Choir facilitates a wide range of the choirs' activities, from supplementing the costs of travel to perform abroad and in the UK, to the Christmas carol performances at our chapel and in London.

Thanks to generous support from some alumni and friends, we are able to offer funding for students to local and international travel, whether for academic reasons or their own personal enrichment. This funding is often life-changing for students, allowing them to travel and broaden their horizons beyond the curriculum. You can read about one student's travels by clicking on the image below.
