Selwyn Book Talks: Women Who Write - Kat Arney in Conversation with Zoe Clarke
As part of Selwyn’s celebrations marking 50 years of women at the College, the Selwyn Book Talks is launching a special Women Who Write strand: a series of conversations with Selwyn women about their writing, ideas and intellectual lives.
For our Michaelmas event, Dr Kat Arney (SE 1995), science writer, broadcaster and author, will be in conversation with Dr Zoe Clarke, Henslow Fellow in Mathematical Biology at Selwyn.
Kat is the author of several acclaimed popular-science books, including Herding Hemingway’s Cats: Understanding How Our Genes Work, How to Code a Human and Rebel Cell: Cancer, Evolution and the Science of Life. Her work explores genetics, evolution, cancer and the stories we tell about science.
The evening will take the form of an informal interview-style conversation across Kat’s body of work: her path into science writing, how complex scientific ideas are translated for wider audiences, and the recurring questions about genes, evolution, disease and human life that run through her books.
The conversation will be followed by audience questions and a drinks reception. College members who would like to continue the evening by joining us for Formal Hall are warmly encouraged to do so.
