What is a Selwyn student's week like?

We asked two students, one taking an arts/humanities course, the other doing sciences to tell us about their work and life ...

The workload and type will vary according to course and year of study but will be broadly similar to that of these two.

1. Arts/humanities

Name:

Ellen

Course and year of study:

HSPS year 3

Tell us about your course?

HSPS is the abbreviation of Human, Social and Political Sciences. The course combines politics, international relations, social anthropology, sociology, archaeology and psychology. In year 1 I covered four of the subject areas and I've specialised more in years 2 and 3.

What is your favourite thing about being at Selwyn?

The friendly atmosphere and being able to live in central college for all three years of my course.

2. Sciences

Name:

Laura

Course and year of study:

NatSci year 2

Tell us about your course?

NatSci (Natural Sciences) is the framework within which most science subjects are found in Cambridge, including in first year: Biology of Cells, Chemistry, Earth Sciences, Evolution and Behaviour, Materials Science, Mathematics (specific for NatScis), Physics and Physiology of Organisms. I have started to specialise and am taking Materials and Chemistry courses.

What is your favourite thing about being at Selwyn?

The fact that everything's on one site - feels really homely and nothing is too far away, giving Selwyn its reputation as the friendliest college in Cambridge.
